Whom to trust

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.
Proverbs 3:5-6 (NKJV)

According to the Oxford English Dictionary, one of the meanings of ‘trust’ is to have a firm belief in the goodness or ability of someone or something. James 1:17 says there is no ‘shadow of turning’ with God. And assurance is given in Psalm 37:3-6 which tells us: ‘Trust in the Lord and do good… Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He shall give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord, Trust also in Him…  He shall bring forth your righteousness as the light, and your justice as the noonday.’

These are thought provoking scriptures which have touched my inner heart; I put my trust wholly in God Almighty, who is omnipotent, omniscient, and omnipresent.

Conversely, there are stark warnings to those who put their trust in man. Psalm 118:8-9 tells us, ‘It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man. It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in princes.’

Jeremiah was bold and explicit when he wrote in Jeremiah 17:5: ‘This is what the Lord says: “Cursed are those who put their trust in mere humans, who rely on human strength and turn their hearts away from the Lord.” ’ (NLT). However, there is encouragement in the following verses: “ But blessed are those who trust in the Lord and have made the Lord their hope and confidence.” (v.7).

I experience the peace of God because I trust in Him with all my heart. “My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” (John 14:27 NKJV). And trust brings great hope and assurance for the future because ‘…we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.’ (Romans 8:28).

Scripture impels me to trust God with all my heart and not to lean on my own understanding and to commit my paths to Him to direct me in the way that I should go. For me Christ is the way, the truth and life and I rely upon and trust Him alone for my salvation, for I trust in His finished work on the cross.

Prayer
Abba Father, thank you for placing trust in You in my heart and thank you for the finished work of the Lord on the cross. This I pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.
